They Say, I Say #6 "And Yet"

 1. Charlip first uses a signal phrase by using a quote from a different source, which we can only assume is an opposing article because then she state s "If only that were true, things might be more simple". This statement is important because it shows how she believes that perspective is too simplified and inaccurate. Charlip uses the personal pronoun "I" a lot to state that it is her point of view, and when addressing a professor she first implies that he will give his opinion and then states, using "he", what he said. She then states how he would person ally define the topic and ask questions directly to the audience. Like in this chapter, Charlip uses a template with a quote to restate her point: " The average American will tell you he or she is “middle class"."
