They Say, I Say #3 "Her Point Is"

 1. In kid's sports, it is important to give them all participation trophies because it encourages kindness and support. Kids will be more determined to play sports or other activities if they can all get some kind of award. This also boosts morale and helps kids to reassure that they can do anything they want. Lots of parents agree that all the kids that played on the field worked hard, and why should they not be compensated for their work? Why should kids not all get rewards if they all participated and played their best? I urge children's sports leagues to consider giving all kids a trophy for playing their hardest and inspire kids to keep playing sports. I believe that not all kids should get participation trophies because it does not teach them the right life skills. Giving everyone a reward teaches kids that you do not need to work hard in life to get what you want, and denies them of what the actual world is like. It would make no sense for the hardest working players to...

They say/ I say pg.19-29

  1. Some locals who live in Ohio say that the Ohio groundwater is perfectly safe and has been drinkable for many years. History is the study of what our human ancestors have accomplished, and material forces are not the driving force for people’s actions and ideas. People say that the standard notions of rationality cannot be questioned because they are set in stone. Females interact more in class discussions than men. Some critics suggest that the film is about the advantages of romantic relationships Graff and Birkenstein, writers of They say I say , agree that templates are just helpful writing starters that increase creativity in a student's literature. 2.  If ever three was an idea custom-made for a Jay Leno monologue, this was it: Pineapple on pizza is delicious. Isn’t that like crazy? Whatever happened to hating pineapple on pizza? It is obviously a ridiculous idea to many pizza lovers. I happen to sympathize with pineapple on pizza, though, perhaps because it combats ...

ACE Analysis single sex schools pt.2

Argument: Single-sex public schools should be more prominent because they help kids learn better than in co-educational schools. Claims and Evidence 1. Improvement in Behavior  In co-educational schools, girls and boys can be distracted by each other and act out to impress each other, but in single-sex schools girls and boys are separated and can focus on their academics. In single sex schools, girls are more likely to participate, boys are more likely to be cooperative, and both are more likely to have better attendance records.   Janice Streitmatter studied and compared the results of girls taking physics in a coeducational and single-sex setting and found that " in the single- sex physics class 87.5% of the girls made an ‘A’ and 12.5% of the girls made a ‘B’; whereas in the coeducational class only 14.3% of the girls made an ‘A’, 14.3% made a ‘B’, and 71.4% made a ‘C’". This shows how separating boys and girls helps  improve  behavior, and increase  par...

They Say / I Say pg.1-18 #1&2

“ They Say / I Say”: The Moves That Matter in Academic Writing , written by Gerald Graff and Cathy Birkenstein, talks about writing templates and how they can help anyone immensely improve their writing and debate skills. Graff and Birkenstein start off the book by explaining how templates are important in critical thinking and can be related to things students do everyday. The authors talk about how their favorite template is “They Say___; I say____”. This is their favorite because they believe it is the set structure for other templates and presents the importance of listening to other people’s perspectives while doing argumentative or any kind of writing. Graff and Birkenstein argue the idea that the foundation for their templates are essential in every argument to captivate the audience and display that the speaker has an overall goal for his or her argument by stating an opposing opinion. To try to demonstrate the importance of these templates, the authors use quotes from di...

ACE Analysis single-sex schools

Argument: Single sex education (SS) displays sexism in the classrooms and is not any better academically than co-educational schools. Claims: There is little evidence of the educational advantages single-sex schools have over co-educational schools. There is no evidence boys and girls learn differently There are negative impacts to single-sex education Evidence: Reviews by the U.S Department of Education, Great britain, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the Programme for International Student Assessment found that there is little difference between the academic outcomes of single sex schools and co-educational schools. Neuroscientists have found ,except for the larger size of a boy’s brain and the earlier c pletion of a girl’s brain, few sex differences in the brain that don’t relate to learning. Although there are more sex differences in adult brains, those differences don’t relate to comprehension or learning. Although there may be some gender stereotyping in co-educational schools...

Arguments and Back to The Future

People argue with each other all the time. It is almost natural for a lot of people to do it, but what is an argument? An argument is a set of statements used to determine the degree of truth of another statement. This means that there are usually two sides to an argument, each one discussing and trying to prove that their side is right. In academic arguments, which are the ones that the class will be learning about in AP seminar, are unlike other kinds of arguments because they use careful and researched claims and evidenced to help show which side has better reasoning. In general there are two kinds of arguments: deductive and inductive. Deductive arguments are valid and accurate, and have all of its assumptions proven. This means that deductive arguments are fully factually and have to be true Inductive arguments, on the other hand, are more based the predictions that have been established by the premises used in the argument. Inductive arguments are more of an educated guess b...

The QUEST framework

The QUEST framework is the guidelines used for AP Capstone to help dissect what the classes are about and what will be learned. It provides a clear way for students and teacher alike to understand the curriculum of each class in the program. Students can develop better thinking skills that will help them answer complex problems and benefit them in their future careers. The Q stands for question and explore. This is made for students to help question what they have already learned and see what they haven't. Questioning starts a student's curiosity into studying an important topic and helps students to start exploring the subject of their choice. The U stands for understand and analyze. Understanding and analyzing texts about the topic helps set a foundation for a student's research and project. The U helps students to look at the works of authors and be able to identify what should be used as facts and what should be used as opinions. Many authors are bias or try to make a ...
